Proposals to strengthen the international audit and ethics standard-setting process welcomed by ACCA

Robust global auditing and ethical standards are essential for business, investor and public trust, says ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) following publication of the Monitoring Group’s paper explaining the way ahead.

Speaking about the Monitoring Group’s recommendations, Maggie McGhee, executive director – governance at ACCA says:

‘This is a much-anticipated announcement following an extensive consultation, and it presents a positive development for the future. Their advice brings certainty to the various standard setting Boards responsible for this important work, and it also provides clarity about the future roles of the Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB), and the International Federation of Accountants.

‘These recommendations will reinforce stakeholder confidence in a technical and expert global system that defines accountancy standards and ethics, with the aim of instilling trust in business and the public sector.’

The enhancements defined in the Monitoring Group’s paper maintain many of the strengths of the existing system, but ACCA believes that the new arrangements should further improve the independence of the International Audit and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), with recommendations also further clarifying the roles between them and the PIOB. The recommendations will also importantly maintain these Boards’ technical experience and expertise.

Maggie McGhee concludes:

‘The timeline for planning and moving to the new implementation needs to be considered with all parties working as quickly as possible to full implementation to avoid uncertainty. However, we recognise this project needs to be handled carefully in the current economic climate due to Covid-19. We look forward to being part of this necessary change.’

Revealed 125W UltraDART, realme leaps for 33% charge of a 4000mAh battery in the first 3 minutes

realme, the world’s fastest growing smartphone brand, officially launched the 125W UltraDART Flash Charging solution today, making it among the first smartphone brand brings the advancing technology in the world. realme Dart Flash Charging technology keeps evolving from 30W, to 50W, to 65W, and now it reaches the surprising 125W. Its birth is of great importance in the era of 5G for being the best solution for 5G smartphone battery life.

The smartphone charging speeds are breaking new barriers every year. A super-fast charging smartphone is not only convenient for the users but, it is also a USP for the manufacturer. Realme has unveiled its 125W UltraDart charging solution in China. realme uses a new parallel three charge pump fast charging technology to achieve this speed. The SuperDart charging solution will support quick charge, power delivery, and programmable power supply protocols.

So how fast a 125W UltraDart charger can charge your phone? Well, it can charge a 4,000mAh battery up to 33% in just 3 minutes, which is probably the fastest one around. During the charge cycle, Realme claims that the temperature will be kept under 40-degree celsius all the time and there won’t be much of a heating issue.

Low battery is always annoying the global users, especially for 5G smartphone users. Since it is almost impossible to make a major breakthrough in battery energy density in the short term, and the internal space of mobile phones is limited, flash charging has become the most effective way to guarantee a long battery life. Thus the 125W UltraDART Flash Charging technology is more significant and also the leading solution among all flash charging.

3 mins for 33% charging, realme UltraDART aims to lead 5G flash charging

How to solve problem of low battery anxiety? realme make all efforts to finally bring the 125W UltraDART Flash Charging technology. Distinguished from other flash charging solution, realme believes it is more important and meaningful to get the phone back to life in the shortest time, instead of just shortening 1 or 2 minutes of the whole charging process. Therefore, realme pays attention to optimize the technology of making smartphones back to life in 3 minutes, which helps users to fully use breaks down to get phone charged so that they can leave whenever they want and don’t need to worry about the battery life.

With 125W UltraDART, a 5G smartphone with a battery life of 4000mAh can be charged around 33% in 3 minutes, supporting hours of daily use of 5G smartphone. The reason why it can get fully charged in just 20 minutes is about the future commercialization and safety, realme specially controls the smartphone temperature under 40°. realme wants to control the charging speed smartly and safely, instead of pursuing the extreme fast charging speed. With temperature control, it could be 13 minutes for 100% charge.

Also, the 125W UltraDART still focuses on both efficiency and safety by adopting direct charging to avoid any potential charging accidents with multi-layer protection. 125W UltraDART does not only support the phone charged while the screen is on and being played with, but also makes 5G smartphones get charged faster, more safely and also comfortable to use.

Applying 125W UltraDART in all price segment to bring leap-forward experience for everyone

Technologies that can be utilized by more people are good ones. realme illustrates that it will take more 5G smartphones shipped with the 125W UltraDART Flash Charging technology into mass production, to make the young users, who realme values the most to experience the innovative charging technology as soon as possible. Meanwhile, as “Popularizer of Tech Trendsetting Life”, realme insists on the “Dare to Leap” brand conception to gradually bring the world-advancing smartphone charging technologies to more price segments rather than only flagship products, bringing the always-on 5G fast-speed experience to more young users which breaks the constraints of the price.

As the brand focusing on the young, realme commits itself to creating products with a leap-forward experience of all aspects. The official launch of the 125W UltraDART Flash Charging technology will magnificently shorten the charging time of high capacity batteries and guarantee the battery life of 5G smartphones, to help realme 5G smartphones perform excellently and offer better trendsetting user experiences.

Embracing digital is key to transforming work experience for accountants

New ways of working will accelerate a move towards digitisation and promote careers that are intellectually stretching and driven by a renewed sense of purpose.

Future work for accountancy and finance professionals is set transform for the better through an increase in the adoption of digital technologies, according to Meaningful work for the digital professional, a report by ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and EY based on a global survey of 4,281 respondents and 55 interviews between April and May 2020.

Respondents to the survey were benchmarked against a group of survey respondents termed ‘Leaders’, who scored highly across a range of categories including the use and adoption of technology in the workplace. These Leaders typically worked at organisations that outperformed in adjusting their delivery model during the pandemic, with 95% saying their organisations were well prepared for using technology against a global average of 74%.

Overall, the report shows that there is room to increase levels of digital adoption. Globally, community technologies (55%) such as social media and messaging saw the highest adoption rates followed by ‘Next-generation’ computing (eg Cloud, Serverless, Edge) at 36% and data technologies (eg big data, analytics, visualisation) at 30%. The largest gap in adoption rates between leaders and the rest of respondents was within the data technologies category. Looking ahead to the next decade, respondents expect engagement with digital and technology to approach 90%.

Perhaps surprisingly, the report also found that less experienced professionals, who might be expected to be more digitally savvy, found the transition to remote working as a result of COVID-19 more difficult than experienced employees. This may reflect factors like a lack of appropriate workspace where they live, or a greater need for guidance in their work.
Report author Narayanan Vaidyanathan says: ‘While a fast-evolving and automating world presents challenges, for those willing to engage there are wins to be had.

‘The digital landscape presents significant opportunities for accountancy and finance professionals to achieve meaningful work experiences – ones that are driven by purpose and which afford the potential to stretch oneself in new and fulfilling ways.’

Two big differentiators of the Leader group were that their organisations had conducted employee skills mapping to identify gaps and had tried to understand if employees found their work fulfilling. These are both critical components for creating meaningful work experiences.

Ruchi Bhowmik, Global Vice Chair – Public Policy at EY said: ‘Embracing new technology will help ease many of the pressures on today’s accountancy and finance professionals from increasingly complex, but routine tasks, issues and bring a new sense of purpose to their roles. At EY, our professionals are already leveraging technology and analysing data in a way that helps elevate their daily work, build essential skills, and lead to rich and meaningful careers.’

Helen Brand OBE, chief executive of ACCA, said: ‘Satisfaction in work is a fundamental building block of a happy and successful life. For accountancy and finance professionals, digital tools offer new possibilities for meaningful work that will outlast the economic challenges posed by the global pandemic.’

Pandemic hurts domestic demand and recession hits exports

Economic analysis reveals the impact on Pakistan’s employment and confidence

ACCA’s Q2 Global Economic Conditions Survey (GECS) published today, reflects the scale of the global recession now under way. Globally, employment indices plummeted to record lows in the latest survey, consistent with the most severe recession in decades.

Pakistan is heading for economic contraction this year as pandemic mitigation measures hurt domestic demand and global recession hits exports. There is also a massive hike in unemployment – the Employment Index stands at -86.95 compared to 57.14 in Q1 and confidence is at an all-time low in Q2 at -78.26 compared with -28.57 in Q1. But the inflation-prone region has seen a dramatic fall in inflationary pressures – inflation concerns index fell by 25 points to just 20 in the Q2 survey – the long run average is 51. It also transpires that public spending expenditure has lowered from -33.33 in Q2 from 20 in Q1.

Michael Taylor, ACCA’s Chief Economist said: ‘Confidence in South Asia fell further in Q2, possibly reflecting that the region was late to see the spread of COVID-19. Also, activity indicators also remain weak, despite a slight improvement in the orders balance and it is worth noting that it is the only region to do so.’

He added: ‘The change in the GECS global index of measured concern about customers and suppliers going out of business underlines the current extremely poor global economic situation.  Both these series had trended sideways at relatively low levels in recent years but shot up to record highs in Q2 – to 23% for suppliers and 47% for customers.’

Special Covid-19 related questions in this GECS show an approximate 50-50 split between those expecting economic recovery in the second half of this year and those expecting it sometime in 2021.

Sajjeed Aslam, Head of ACCA Pakistan, said: ‘ACCA members have played a crucial role in the first phase of the pandemic – supporting businesses and organisations to keep trading. At this time of economic turbulence, accountants are both value creators and value protectors, helping their clients and the businesses they work in to make informed economic decisions. They will now undoubtedly play a crucial role in the recovery phase.’

Top Feature-Rich Smartphones at a Competitive Price

To overcome the global threat of COVID19, the human race is easing into a totally new lifestyle, ensuring health through social-distancing and adopting hygiene as the primary protocol. Telecommunications provide sustainable growth for us, as innovative and resourceful enterprises are coming up with a blast of futuristic devices and solutions to deliver the most needed services for the masses.

The telecom market in Pakistan has also evolved according to the situation and changes in consumers’ expectations. Powerful with appealing looks, new smartphones are introduced with superior functions to ease lives of consumers during the strict preventive lockdowns.

On top of this list of feature-rich devices, the tech-analysts and experts have time and again focused on entry-level smartphones as more and more consumers get to buy them. While the market is littered with such entry-level phones, we’ve picked out the best ones based on their design, battery, and performance but most importantly pricing!

HUAWEI Y6p (PKR 20,899/-)
Aimed at addressing the communication needs of YOUNGSTERS with the smallest budgets, Huawei has launched an impressive device named the Y6p. It enables unmatched prowess for more intensive and critical use, with its 5,000 mAh battery and a 13MP Triple Camera setup that captures spectacular images (impressive night-mode too) with stunning clarity in pictures. Put together with a 5MP Ultra Wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor, it can create super-impressive and natural bokeh effects in your photos.

This device also allows fascinating creative expressions and sharing on social networks with its 16MP selfie camera on the front.

Packed with a 3GB RAM and 64GB ROM, HUAWEI Y6p features immersive viewing on its 6.3-inch HD+ display, while a rear ultra-fast fingerprint sensor ensures complete security of data. Enjoy the most awesome surround-sound music and crisp audio, with the HUAWEI SuperSound and party-mode with FM radio. It is available in three soothing colors – Phantom Purple, Emerald Green & Midnight Black.

Samsung Galaxy A20s (PKR 30,500/-)
Another big name in the ‘Budget’ Smartphones category is the Samsung Galaxy A20s. It offers attractive specs for the consumers who want to have a good phone at an ‘almost’ affordable price. Its 6.5-inch Infinity-V display doesn’t match an HD+, but it provides good experience while gaming or watching movies or videos. Its triple rear-camera setup comprises of a 13MP main sensor, enriched by an 8MP Ultra Wide sensor, and a 5MP Depth Sensor, along with a flash. While its front camera can take 8MP Selfies. Data security is ensured by a fingerprint reader, while its 4,000 mAh battery delivers average battery usage. Moreover, with such a big screen, this may not prove itself to be good at battery timing, especially if you’re an intensive phone user. The 1.8GHz Octa-Core Processor chipset is good enough for an entry-level phone, but it may prove to be a bit uninspiring, when compared to the other competing devices, in this category. The 3GB or 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB ROM are quite good, but may be less than some generic devices in this category and this price tag. This phone tends to be priced higher than its competitors in this category.

Oppo A5s (PKR 20,999/-)
The 3GB version of the Oppo A5s is an entry-level mobile, the consumers may find it very attractively priced at PKR 20,999/- in Pakistan as the primary attraction of this brand is its cheaper price, but this device did compromise on its capacity, with a lower ROM of 32GB, while some users may also have complaints about its performance and durability. The MediaTek Helio P35 is the most common chipset used in the cheapest smartphones, so the phone may be a bit slow on multitasking. If the users get uncomfortable with the storage capacity, they can use a dedicated microSD card to add 256GB extra, which is usually far slower than primary storage. Even the Dual camera setup is not as good as the Triple cameras offered by the premium branded phones in this category. It has a dual rear-camera with 13MP primary sensor and only a 2MP depth sensor and an LED flash. The selfie sensor on the front is 8MP. Here the camera pales in comparison to the HUAWEI Y6p which offers more for a slightly lesser price. The visual experience is quite good due to its 6.2 inches Full HD+ resolution, while your data is strongly protected, due to a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Powered by a 4,230 mAh battery, it is somewhat lesser than its competitors in this segment, while the Android 9 Operating System is also an attractive feature of this low-priced phone.

Vivo Y11 (PKR 19,999/-)
Another brand, Vivo is emerging well in several segments of the Pakistani market. In the entry-level segment, Vivo has introduced the Y11 smartphone, priced at PKR 19,999/-. This device is bought for its cheaper price alone as the features offered are quite basic. The photography enthusiasts however may find it exciting due to the 13MP Dual Camera, featuring a 2MP Depth sensor, but you may also know that higher number of megapixels don’t actually have that good outcome when it comes to camera result. The selfie freaks may also love its 8MP front camera, to capture their most memorable moments, while they can enjoy their visual experiences with the 6.35 inch IPS HD screen. The robust 5,000 mAh battery also makes it a good choice, as it promises lasting performance for the passionate surfers and social-media geeks. Let’s hope Vivo also offers good battery optimization in this low budget phone, otherwise these specs are just numbers. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 OctaCore processor may not be the best in class, however, users may enjoy some degree of multitasking, while the 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM also adds to their performance capacity. Another thing to note here is that Vivo Y11 gives you 32GB while you can get a 64GB on the HUAWEI Y6p – for almost the same price. Other than that, the ease of use and convenience for users is also enhanced by the Android 9 Operating system.

All these low-priced devices are within the reach of consumers with limited budgets. Now, everyone can have access to the fascinating world of digital info-tainment and global accessibility, to enhance their personal performance and quality of life, while they can engage more closely with the digital communities around the globe.
